Concerns are mounting for Leeds University's Refectory as this season's line-up is already showing the effects of the impending arrival of the Leeds Carling Academy. Since its entrance into the music scene in the late 1960s, the Leeds University Refectory has been one of the most popular venues for students to see top quality bands up close. However, as the new Academy's event list begins to take shape it seems bands are now moving away from the traditional university location. Having played host to bands such as The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, The Refectory is most renowned for The Who's live recording there in February 1970. The album "Live at Leeds' was the band's first live record. In recent years, chart acts including the Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party and The Killers have performed at The Refectory. Ed Kitts, a second year history student, said: "The Refec has so much history and is a staple diet of the hardcore Union goer."
