Graduate Dining: Thai Edge

Graduation season is fast approaching, with plenty of Leeds University students beginning to plan their special last day in the city with friends and family. Overlooking Millennium Square, Thai Edge is the perfect choice for a bite to eat after all the ceremonies are over. Leeds Student’s Joseph Short reviews…

Graduation day can be a bit of a kafuffle. There’s gowns to sort out, places to find and hair to look after. Trying to entertain increasingly tiring family members can also leave a strain on the big day; so where better to relax those stresses than Thai Edge, a serene yet sumptuous restaurant just off Millennium Square.

You may have walked past the restaurant a thousand times on your route down to the train station and beyond, and barely noticed the large window from your pavement standpoint. Thai Edge is a bit of an enigma from the outside, lifted up above the road and out of eyesight. Yet inside you are greeted with a swathe of beautiful decor that stretches far into the distance. It’s a lot bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.

platters and grills flood the menu

To accompany their large dining area is an extensive menu for all tastes. A number of set menus first greet you, before the A La Carte multitude sweeps into view. Platters and grills flood the menu, but what was most interesting for us was the satay skewers, satay gae: lamb cooked to perfection doused in something sweet and spicy, plus a pot of peanut sauce on the side.

The satay comes as a taste indication of what the main course will be like – and it doesn’t disappoint, with a wonderful aroma steaming off the pork and ginger stir fry matched only in flavour.

Along with the pork we ordered a chicken stir fry, and it was clear both had been freshly and individually prepared – a big indication of the care Thai Edge take to satisfy diners. The waiting staff are also prepared to advise when one is blindly scouring the menu, and a prawn-infused egg fried rice for two was suggested over individual sides: a real treat.

such a serene, relaxed atmosphere

All that was left for us to do was sit back and enjoy the world go by from the restaurant’s panoramic window that looks out on to Millennium Square and The Electric Press. With such a serene, relaxed atmosphere, Thai Edge really is the place to come after a stressful – yet fun – day on campus.

Thai Edge benefits from having a lunch and a dinnertime menu. For those graduating early in the day, they are open 12:00 to 14:30 and have a large set-price lunch menu. Later in the day, the A La Carte menu arrives, with so much to choose from one review cannot do justice to it.

To help you further celebrate your graduation, Thai Edge is offering a free bottle of Prosecco with every four seats booked for that special day. Please enquire for details. To book a table, call 0113 243 6333 or click here.
