Graduate Dining: River Plate Steakhouse
Your graduation should stand out as one to remember. Over the past three or more years every student will have sampled some of the delights Leeds has to offer, but on graduation day it may be worth trying something a bit different for that last time in the city. Leeds Student’s Joseph Short reviews the Argentine steakhouse, River Plate…
Situated at the head of the fashionable Calls district of Leeds, River Plate offers a dual feast for your graduation. While the sumptuous steaks cooked to perfection will satiate the appetite, your eyes are free to devour the beautiful canal-side surroundings that River Plate’s balcony overlooks.
This July’s graduation season will be spectacular if the weather holds up, and Leeds’ hidden gems down by the canal will be open for all. River Plate is one of these gems, an Argentine steakhouse designed to offer Leeds diners a taste of something special.
Mussels in spicy tomato sauce for the adventurous among us
The relaxed, ambient restaurant boasts a Latino vibe that is matched in its food. Upon entry, the confident kitchen comes into view with chefs deliberating over the perfection of their steaks, with plenty more to offer besides.
For graduation, River Plate have created a set menu to appeal to all tastes. The two-course menu includes not only a delicious steak and fries, but also mussels in spicy tomato sauce for the adventurous among us.
Starters range from an impressive chorizo sausage to what appears to be a speciality of the restaurant: pot-roasted smoked cheese. The cheese is accompanied with crispy garlic bread and caramelised onions to offer a taste sensation totally unprecedented in the city’s eateries.
Sirloin, rib eye, fillet and rump – River Plate has it all
Although a bit messy, the mussels for mains go well in unfamiliar spicy tomato sauce, but of course River Plate’s glory is the steak. The set menu’s 6oz steak is cooked to your preference and comes with a mouth-watering side of thin, crispy fries.
If the set menu isn’t your thing, feel free to scale the heights of Argentine dining with an extensive steak selection. Sirloin, rib eye, fillet and rump – River Plate has it all in varying sizes to match every diner. Still feeling unchallenged after three years at uni? Then the 1 kilo Bife de Cuadril may be for you!
For those who graduate early in the day, the restaurant boasts a lunch menu that teems with as much life and unpredictability as any other in the city. A meal at River Plate is both varied and entertaining, and with an extensive wine and desert menu, the restaurant can boast itself as one of the freshest establishments in Leeds.
River Plate is offering a graduation deal on the two-course set menu, priced at just £12. Call 0113 391 2792 to book.
