Man vs Booze’s hospital hoax
He pulled the hospital hoax to stop doing videos
The Leeds University student behind the Man Vs. Booze series has been forced to admit that despite what he claimed last night, he was never actually taken to hospital. An investigation by Leeds Student reveals he had made the whole thing up.
A statement on the official Man Vs. Booze Twitter account and Facebook page last night, by someone claiming to be the student’s housemate, claimed the student was in hospital after filming his latest video,
Leeds Student had attempted to verify the claims last night and spoke to a source close to MVB who assured this newspaper that the 21-year-old had been rushed to Leeds General Infirmary after attempting the challenge.
But after an investigation found that neither Leeds General Infirmary nor any other hospital in Leeds had admitted the student, suspicions began to fall on the student’s claims.
Further suspicions were arisen when, after declaring MVB to be recovering from Alcohol poisoning, the @officialMVB accounted tweeted,
The number (blanked out for privacy) was not that of MVB, but a close friend.
Leeds Student was then able to contact a source close to the videos who confirmed that MVB had spent the night at his home in Hyde Park.
MVB is thought to have engineered the hoax after being shown a video of a student at Swansea University drinking a pint of Jack Daniels and a pint of vodka.
Leeds Student understands that the 21-year-old decided things had to stop earlier this week and decided to bring his Man vs. Booze series to a dramatic end.
In an email to Leeds Student he said,
“When [Man Vs Booze] gained in popularity I realised that it was sending out the wrong message and too many people were trying to replicate it. This is when I decided to take action by fabricating the story that I had been admitted to hospital; to deter anyone else from trying to drink these irresponsible amounts of alcohol.”
The @officialMVB Twitter account has now been deleted.
UPDATE:
The @officialMVB twitter account has since been revived and posted a video of one of MVB’s friends getting a #MVB tattoo.
