Half of Student Exec go for reelection

In a shock move, three out of six student executives are re-running for their 16k a year jobs. It is believed that the last time an individual re-ran was several years ago and they subsequently lost.

Mark Sewards, who has been known for his involvement in the student Labour Party, decided his role as Communications and Internal Affairs was worth holding onto.

Last year, he won with a simple slogan of ‘Make your Mark’ narrowly beating Law societies’ Richard Quayle to the president-esq role. His proudest achievement this year is keeping the ever-popular ‘£2 meal deal’ in Union shop essentials.

Community Officer Ben Fisher, whose uncle works for the University, similarly decided it might be worth sticking around for another year. His work this year includes working with the University for student safety and keeping bus fares low.

When he announced his re-election decision he said…

“Why not? It’s an awesome job and if someone beats me, I’ll make sure I give them an excellent hand-over”

He revealed that his slogan this time will be ‘Re-elect the Fish’.

Although rumours were rife in the Union this week that only two of the current Student Executive were planning on running to keep their jobs, Leeds Student can reveal that a third candidate fancies her chances.

Charlie Hopper, who is re-running for ‘Equality and Diversity Officer’ won her campaign last year by bouncing around on a giant space hopper proclaiming: ‘You can’t stop the Hopper’. So far this year, her successes have been promoting and organising Black History Month.

She told this paper…

“I know I can be really successful, again.”

On news of these revelations, last year’s controversial twitter antagonist @leadluu who purposefully started fights between candidates tweeted Leeds Student today stating…

The ‘race’ has also begun for the election of the new Leeds Student Editor. This year, there are three candidates: Thomas Barr from Tech, Simon Rowbotham from Music and Lucy Snow from Features.

All candidates have now attended their compulsory briefing. The next time we’ll see them is in a ‘Candidate Question Time’ held in the Union on 29 February.
