8 years in the making Blink 182 have finally unveiled their newest album Neighbourhoods much to the excitement of their dedicated pop punk following and nobody else. This album’s main appeal is in the familiarity of the whiny vocals and super-fast drum beat that sound-tracked our early teenage years. Neighbourhoods has a more mature feel than previous albums; less mum jokes, more heavy guitar riffs. Opener ‘Ghost on the Dancefloor’ begins with the clatter of Travis Barker’s drums and a dancey guitar riff before the familiar sound of Tom Delonge’s vocals kick in. The comeback single ‘Up All Night’ is relatively impressive. This song really shows the more advanced sound the band have been going for in this album; huge guitar riff, huge drums, and a big, ambitious sound. Overall Neighbourhoods is predictably underwhelming but nevertheless an enjoyable album that’ll trigger all sorts of embarrassing memories from our whiny, spotty, over-emotional childhoods. Worth a listen.
