Barefoot in the Park 2011

It’s that time of year again! On Sunday 5 June take off your shoes and head over to Hyde Park (technically Woodhouse Moor, next to the Bowls Pavilion) for one-dayer, arts fest Barefoot in the Park 2011. The festival is an annual event that is in association with Cadaverine, The Scribe and Stand magazines and Leeds University Union English Society.

Doors open at noon and from 12.30pm to 9pm there will be poetry readings, music, storytelling and comedy. There will also be the annual Slam Battle where budding MCs battle it out for the title of Slam Champion 2011. The line-up includes poetry readings from Leeds University’s own John Whale, Vahni Capildeo and a special guest that will be announced in the next couple of weeks. For the full line-up visit the website http://www.barefootinthepark.net/.

Following on from the success of last year, there will also be a competition open to all unpublished poems and stories. Budding poets and storytellers can enter by visiting: http://www.barefootinthepark.net/about/poetry-prose-competition/ and enter today. This year’s prizes include publication on Stand magazine’s new website, and poetry coaching from the editorial team at Cadaverine.

There are also open mic slots throughout the day so go and get involved in the fun.

Tickets for Barefoot in the Park are on sale at £7 (£6 for concessions) and can be bought from http://www.barefootinthepark.net/about/tickets/ or on the day.
