Rugby player jailed

A Leeds Met first-team rugby player has been jailed for an attack that left a Leeds University student with permanent facial disfigurement.
23-year-old, Ryan Shahin, was said to have got involved a punch-up with players from Leeds University rugby team on 29 September 2010.
But when James Radcliffe, from Leeds University, tried to intervene he was struck in the mouth by Shahin and then taken to hospital with missing teeth and a serious laceration to his lip.
However, Radcliffe didn’t even know who his attacker was until a couple of days later at the annual Varsity match between the Universities, when his friends spotted Shahin coming off the substitutes bench.
Police arrested Shahin later that day. Shahin had completed his degree at the University of Cardiff before doing a master’s degree at Leeds Met.
He was also lined up for a top job at an international sports sponsorship company in London.
He was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court for eight months behind bars.
