Teams of hopefuls thrashed it out last week to be crowned ‘Leaders of the Future’ at the International Association of Students in Economics and Management (AIESEC) Leeds Leadership Tournament.
Over the past month, students at universities across the UK have been competing in similar tournaments, with each winning team receiving a place at the final National Leadership Tournament in London.
At the University of Leeds, competition was fierce as teams broke off to devise a way of encouraging businesses to become more environmentally sustainable. Each team then endured a rigorous examination by the panel of judges, which included former AIESEC Leeds LCP Steven Sparrow, AIESEC Alumni Craig Hamer, and AIESEC Leeds LCP elect Alec Smith and former AIESEC Oslo Vice President Catherine Golf.
The top prize was given to Team Fusion who came up with the idea of a ‘sustainability’ brand that could be given to products that met their green criteria. The group, which was made up of students Azy Aziz, Mariam Rehman, Rekhmat Wadood and Melanie Rideout, argued that in an increasingly environmentally aware society such a brand would help to increase sales.
Team Fusion’s creative campaign and skilled presentation not only won them a place at the National AIESEC Leadership Tournament but also a Driving Experience Package courtesy of AIESEC Leeds Leadership Tournament Sponsor Jaguar-Land rover.
AIESEC LCP elect Alec Smith said of the result: “It was a fantastic day with lots of creative talent; the team and leadership performance was of a very high quality… well done to all the teams who got involved and congratulations to Team Fusion!”
AIESEC, otherwise known as the International Association of Students in Economics and Business Management, is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to develop the leaders of tomorrow through cultural exchange and leadership opportunities.
