Simply the best

Simple Cosmetics have named their new online spokesperson and marketer as Leeds University student Charlotte Samuel. The second year student beat off 5000 other applicants to win the ‘Search for a Simple Star’ competition.

Charlotte has been awarded with the ‘job of a lifet

ime’ and a prize package worth up to £50 000. She will also have the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic and will receive a lifelong supply of Simple products.

The competition involved getting as many people as possible to vote for you by promoting yourself in various ways. Group Marketing Director for Simple, Alex Pike, said: “We have developed this unique recruitment process to give applicants the chance to showcase their flair and creativity – which proves they have a natural aptitude and passion for marketing – but means qualifications are not necessary.”

Due to her personality, values, and attitudes she won the role despite a lack of previous marketing experience. Simple believes that she maintains a lifestyle that perfectly reflects the company’s ethos, “I’m a huge fan of natural beauty, so it’s such an honour to be representing a brand which stands for so much of what I believe in,” Charlotte commented.

As a student studying Broadcast Journalism, Charlotte has always had a keen interest in media.  At the age of five she started writing short stories and by the age of 16 had presented a programme on MTV. Just this year at the age of 20, she presented her first film at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.  Charlotte is also a talented singer performing most recently at a student festival.

Charlotte presents her own YouTube channel where she gives make-up tutorials on achieving a natural look. She now has over a million hits as they have proved so popular. At the moment Charlotte is uncertain as to full extent of her role but believes it will encompass “blogging, running online campaigns and attending events hosted by the company.” She anticipates that her popularity as a blogger on YouTube will be beneficial in her work for Simple.

Charlotte said of her recent success: “It was an absolutely amazing feeling to win and I still haven’t completely got over the shock of it!”
