Library-goers on a fit-finding mission
Fit Finder takes over libraries
Working in the library may never be the same again after a new website was set up to allow people to comment on ‘fitties’ they see in and around campus and contact their library crushes.
The website, known as ‘Fit Finder,’ was launched last weekend and is already receiving a lot of attention. Students can anonymously describe their love interest and location by choosing from a list of places on campus such as the Edward Boyle library and Parkinson building. ‘The Fitfinder’ also allows students to describe themselves and leave contact details if they wish, whilst others, including the targeted ‘fitty’ can make comments on the post.
The website is being described as a mix between Facebook and Twitter and is expected to become famous among students in the UK in the coming weeks, especially with the upcoming exam period and increased volume of potential ‘fitties’ in the library.
“It’s a pretty hilarious idea, but I’m not sure how I’d feel if I saw something written about me,” said Anna Cuthbert, a second year Theology Student. “I’d probably spend the rest of the day trying to figure out who wrote it.”
The website was created by Rich Martell, a third-year student from University College London, who claims to have taken his inspiration from past experiences in the Library.
“When we’re revising in the library we all text each other when we see an attractive girl, that planted the idea in my head for a website,” said Martell, who studies Computer Science. “We’re selling the adverts to local business and restaurants near universities – it’s perfect for them to advertise to students because they know they’re in the area.”
Martell admits he is surprised by the website’s popularity and Universities are being added to the website daily. The website had 2,000 users last Saturday but this figure had risen to 18,000 by the Monday.
Despite this success, Martell believes his future lies elsewhere: “I’ve got a job in the city lined-up for me. This is only a joke.”
The website appears to already be popular among both male and female Leeds University students, with an average of 20 posts per hour on Monday.
